Did we really need another $1.9 Trillion COVID relief package to prompt an economic recovery?
If government relief, through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and through extended and increased unemployment benefits, was needed to help our country maintain wages through the pandemic, then perhaps the scale of relief isn’t warranted if wages held up or otherwise recovered from a decline.
In this report, the Atlanta Fed releases research on the trend in wages. This is a very detailed piece that shows overall wages during the period of the pandemic held up better than in other recent recessions.
So, was the sheer size of additional stimulus really needed? The data from this report suggests… maybe not! Have a read.
